Autotrader / Monster Energy / Yamaha Team - Anaheim 1 - Race Report
January 10, 2016

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 10, 2016) – Angel Stadium of Anaheim was host to the opening round of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Championship.  A sold out crowd of 45,050 fans were in attendance and Fox Sports One aired the entire event live.  Throughout the 42 seasons of Monster Energy Supercross Angel Stadium of Anaheim has been on the schedule 36 times, the most of any stadium.  The first race held in the stadium was on Dec. 4, 1976.

For qualifying, Weston Peick was in heat race one and Justin Barcia was in heat race two.  Peick was riding well in a transfer position when a rider collided into Peick causing him to crash and go to the semi.  Barcia transferred directly to the main event from heat race two.  In semi two Peick was again riding well in a transfer position when the same rider again collided into Peick this time bringing them both down.

Peick’s frustration was hard to contain and an altercation ensued with the result being Peick was disqualified.  “I was very emotional in the moment and I apologize for my actions,” said Peick afterward.  The AMA later decided to suspend Peick for one event, so Phil Nicoletti will substitute for Peick next week.

When the gate fell for the main event it was Barcia leading the field around turn one.  Barcia looked to be sprinting away when Ryan Dungey accidently ran into James Stewart on lap-three resulting in a red flag so the medical team could safely attend to the downed Stewart.

Barcia gated well on the re-start riding in second position during the early laps.  He was shuffled back as the race went on but was inside the top-10 with just four laps to go when he suffered a crash that relegated him back to 15th which is where he finished.

Petco Park in San Diego, Calif. will be the site for round two of the 17-race series on Jan. 16.  Fox Sports One will air the race live starting at 10:00 p.m. (EST).!anaheim-1-2016/c6wa
